Ivy Green Moon Tree

Tuscumbia, Alabama

Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) planted on October 19, 1976 in Tuscumbia, Alabama at Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller. The tree was presented to Ivy Green by the Alabama Forestry Commission and planted by the Alabama Garden Club.

The seeds for the loblolly pines were collected in Livingston Parish, Lousiana, and New Kent County, Virginia and delivered to Stuart Roosa to take with him on Apollo 14. Unfortunately the two batches were mixed together after the flight so it is not known which location this particular tree came from. The seedlings were grown in The U.S. Forest Service's Southern Station in Gulfport, Mississippi.
